PREMIERING AT THE CAROLINA FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21
, 2008

Born to a poor farming family in the rugged mountains of Southern Appalachia, Lewis Redmond managed a bootleg network that ranged through three states. He fought and eluded revenuers and marshals sent to capture him, and helped poor Southerners pay their taxes and save their lands, earning him the folk hero status of an American Robin Hood.

In the era of Jesse James and Billy-the-Kid, Lewis Redmond was the most famous outlaw in the country, though he would soon be forgotten. In The Outlaw Lewis Redmond, storytellers, folklorists, historians and descendents recover a story that grants a privileged view into a turbulent, formative era of American history.
